If you are anything like me, and I am a very busy person; when I finally lay down to sleep at night, I sometimes find my mind running the lists of things that still have to be accomplished. I am sure you have heard the old adage to "count sheep." Well that is not actually a bad idea. The concept is to take your mind off the daily chores of life and to focus on letting go.

First, make yourself very comfortable, take several deep breaths and let them out audibly. Then starting at your toes, tense the muscles and hold the tension for 5 seconds counting to yourself. Then release the tension in the muscles and move up the body tightening, holding, and releasing each group.

Many times, we are not aware of the tension that we are holding in our bodies so it is important to notice and learn when you are tense and where.

The critical core of the mind opens as we drift into sleep and the sounds, words or suggestions that we hear can become a belief in our minds even if we don't want them to. Have you ever went to sleep in front of the television and awoke the next morning singing a commercial?

Dreams occur in 3 stages of the night; the first stage is the sorting stage and produces wishful thinking dreams. The second stage occurs in the middle of the night and produces precognitive dreams. This is when the subconscious is trying to predict all the things that could happen in the future. The subconscious mind does this based on the information it has received in the last 24 hours, your past, and your beliefs. The third stage of sleep occurs just as we are waking up in the morning, or at the end of the sleep cycle. This stage is called the venting stage; during this stage, the critical core is finished sorting, and attaching beliefs to already existing similar beliefs and it is disposing of the information that is of no use to you.
